Undercover reporters have caught Jason Edworthy performing illegal tooth whitening two years after he was first prosecuted by the GDC.
As part of the BBC Inside Out West programme Mr Edworthy was secretly filmed offering tooth whitening services using chlorine dioxide at a clinic in Royal Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire.
When asked by the undercover reporter whether he and his team were in the dental profession, Mr Edworthy replied with: “We are because we do cosmetic whitening, but we can’t do dentistry because we’re not dentists.” He also claimed that "no tooth whitening is dangerous."
Mr Edworthy previously pleaded guilty to illegal tooth whitening on 17th January 2014 following incidents at Beta Clinic’ in Hemel Hempstead, and ‘Movers and Shakers’ in Stanmore, Middlesex. He was fined £250, ordered to pay a £25 victim surcharge and full costs to the GDC of £897.82.
Speaking at Mr Edworthy’s hearing at Milton Keynes Magistrates’ Court in 2014, the magistrates said: “We have listened to what you and the GDC have had to say. In making our decision we note that you have never been registered as a Dentist, however we also note that since 1 August 2013, when you realised that tooth whitening was illegal, you have not provided any further tooth whitening treatment.”
