The 19th annual Conference of Scottish Local Dental Committees was held on 20 April 2018 at the University of Stirling.
The Conference invited Shona Robison, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport to speak to delegates on the political matters relevant to GDPs in Scotland and in particular about the Scottish Government's Oral Health Improvement Plan (OHIP).
The OHIP states that 'the Scottish Government will introduce an occupational health service for GDPs, members of the dental team and other practice staff." David McColl, the Chair of SDPC was pleased about the announcement since SDPC had established a working group in the spring of 2015 to investigate the causes of increasing stress amongst GDPs. In August 2017 after the group concluded, a recommendations report was published and one of the recommendations was that there should be access for GDPs to a range of funded NHS occupational health services.
BDA Scotland was also delighted that Ms Robison made the announcement - to be implemented on 1 June 2018.
BDA Scotland supports, represents and promotes, the interests of all dentists working in Scotland. Working with elected committee members, we negotiate on behalf of the profession on terms and conditions, and pay and contracts.
