BDA Scotland welcomes the announcement of a new occupational health service for dentists and dental practice staff, accessible from 1 June 2018.
The service is equivalent to the scheme for general medical practitioners and their practice staff, and will be delivered through NHS Boards in conjunction with SALUS, the NHS-based provider of occupational health services.
BDA Scotland and the Scottish Dental Practice Committee (SDPC) first requested that the Scottish Government introduce an occupational health service for GDPs in 2016.
In 2017, the SDPC's Stress in the Dental Workplace Working Group produced a report on the issues facing dentists, and highlighted its key findings to the Scottish Chief Dental Officer.
One of the key recommendations in our report was for GPDs to have access to a range of funded NHS occupational health services.
